Good Morning. Can you imagine what school would be like if the only time you picked up your textbook was when you went to class?  To put it frankly, most of us would be “dumb as a box of rocks” when it came time for the test. Right? I can remember sitting down for a test I didn’t study for thinking “Ok if they are all multiple choice questions I can at least guess the right answers… ” Isn’t that frustrating? It is especially so when we know that the answer lies in our textbook and we would know had we bothered to pick up the book and read. So then, why is it that our Bibles sit in our cars all week long only to be used or during class time (Sundays and Wednesdays)? Isn’t our life full of tests and trials? Unfortunately, many churches downplay the importance of studying the scriptures and/or Bible study. However just as children cannot grow to be strong without nourishment, Christians must partake in the Word of God in order to mature as believers.   To take it a step further through study we begin to memorize the scripture. The Word becomes implanted IN us and with that we are able to without hesitation defend our faith. Most often opportunities to share the gospel with others come when we do not have a Bible in hand. It has been said that actual verses from the Bible have penetrating power and when coming straight from the heart our witnessing becomes even more effective. So today I challenge you for the next 40 days to read your Bible and memorize one scripture. I’ll participate if you will! Who’s with me!?

Scripture to Remember…     READ IT    1 Timothy 4:11-14 Get the word out. Teach all these things. And don’t let anyone put you down because you’re young. Teach believers with your life: by word, by demeanor, by love, by faith, by integrity. Stay at your post reading Scripture, giving counsel, teaching. And that special gift of ministry you were given when the leaders of the church laid hands on you and prayed-keep that dusted off and in use.     MEMORIZE IT   Psalm 119:How can a young person live a clean life?       By carefully reading the map of your Word.    I’m single-minded in pursuit of you;       don’t let me miss the road signs you’ve posted.    I’ve banked your promises in the vault of my heart       so I won’t sin myself bankrupt.    Be blessed, God;       train me in your ways of wise living.    I’ll transfer to my lips       all the counsel that comes from your mouth;    I delight far more in what you tell me about living       than in gathering a pile of riches.    I ponder every morsel of wisdom from you,       I attentively watch how you’ve done it.    I relish everything you’ve told me of life,       I won’t forget a word of it.

Well… I’m back! I had to take time and minister to myself as I was going through hell and for everyone of you that prayed, called, texted, & emailed I thank you. I’ve got more Word than ever now so get ready get ready get ready!   Also, remember today is “Ash Wednesday” and the beginning of Lent. Lent is very significant in that it is a season of soul-searching and repentance. It is a season for reflection and taking stock of our lives. It is also a period of fasting and praying. Some denominations require a specific fast and others don’t. I implore you to participate in Lent however that is a decision that can only made by you.
